Is your home office OHS compliant?

If you have a home office it would be valuable to review the OHS guidelines to make sure your space complies, to protect your safety and that of your team in their own home offices. This is particularly important if you do not typically work from home and subsequently your office space has not been set up for full-time working arrangements.

There are 11 key things to ensure home office compliance:

  1. A working smoke detector
  2. An ergonomic chair and adequately sized work surface
  3. A fire extinguisher readily available
  4. A first aid kit readily available
  5. Clear exits from the work area that are unobstructed
  6. Safely secured electrical cords and appliances
  7. No tripping hazards
  8. Safe and non-slip floor coverings
  9. Appropriate handrails on stairs
  10. Appropriate lighting over work area
  11. Proper ventilation with adequate heating and cooling

From an electrical point of view, it is important to check if your Residual Current Devices (RCD’s) are working effectively. An RCD prevents electrocution by identifying electrical faults and breaking the circuit to limit the flow of electricity, thereby limiting any potential impact on your or your family.

Here is a test that you can do at home to check if your RCD’s are working effectively:

  • Plug a small lamp into a powerpoint and make sure it works. Leave it turned on.
  • Make sure that electricity is connected to the property and the main switch is in the “on” position. The lamp should be on.
  • Turn off all electronic equipment such as computers and televisions.
  • Push the test button on each RCD. Do not hold your finger on the test button.
  • The RCD should operate (turn off). If it does not turn off, there could be a fault so it must be checked by an electrical contractor.
  • After pushing the test button and the RCDs have turned off, check that the small lamp is also now off.
  • Also check that all the lights and power points do not operate. To do this, plug the small lamp into all the power points and turn the power point on. If the lamp turns on, a licensed electrical contractor must be engaged to correct the wiring.

If you are concerned about your RCD’s or or if you would like to book in for a home electrical safety check, please give our friendly team a call on 1300 882 202 or contact us online.

Completed Infection Control Training for COVID-19

Infection Control Training COVID-19

The team of electricians at CLF Services have safety as our number one priority. In this period of uncertainty, there is an increased awareness of the importance of safe work practices and hygiene to help minimise the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). To ensure we can operate at full capacity during this period we felt that it was critical for our team to be as educated as possible on what the disease is. This includes knowing what signs and symptoms we need to look out for and be aware of, how to keep ourselves and you safe while we are working, and also to help us identify the truth from the fiction.

We are certified as having conducted the Infection Control Training for COVID-19, so you can feel safe in the understanding that we have done and will do everything in our power to operate safely.

During this period, we would recommend you taking the opportunity to be proactive with your electrical systems at home or in your place of business, to preempt any potential hazards or faults. If you are running additional white goods that may be placing an additional load on your electrical systems, call us out to take a look and make sure you are operating safely and with minimal risk. Or if your business is closed, then this could be an ideal time to run your scheduled maintenance or rewire if your systems are a bit tired.

If you have any questions about the training or to make an appointment, give us a call on 1300 882 202.
